Sneak Peek of my Farmhouse style. . .

A few months ago when we decided to finish our basement I knew immediately that I wanted to give it the farmhouse style that I have grown to love.

I have always thought that it would have been so fun to be raised on a farm.  Now, at my age; I know it would be a lot of work.

Although the style of my home is definitely not farmhouse I decided it’s time to bring it back to it’s roots.

My home is located on what use to be the ‘ Wayne McDaniel farm’.  However, the closest thing that it has to looking like a farm house is the neighbors old barn and milk house to the West of our home.  Every now and then cows graze in the small pasture connected to our lot.

Still, farmhouse images roam through my head.

We are so close to being finished with the construction and I am chomping at the bits to start decorating.

Today I thought I would share with you the top 10 things that came to mind when I was trying to create our farmhouse style.  You can see that things are not quite complete.

1.  Open shelving.

2.  Beadboard

3.  Skirted Cabinets

My friend, Amanda had a bolt of this red and cream checked fabric that worked perfectly.

4. Farmhouse sink.

5.  Decorative knick knack shelves.

6.  Glass in some cabinets.

  IMG_0781

We had this seed cabinet built over 20 years ago for a business that a friend and I owned.  I knew it would be perfect for a small island.

7.  Reclaimed wood.

 IMG_0782

Knowing that I couldn’t put hardwood on concrete (other than bamboo) I decided to check out laminate instead of tile.  I am amazed at the options.  This flooring is still dusty, but does that not look like old barn wood?

8.  Vintage green paint.

9.  Simplistic lighting.

10. Old Dresser instead of vanity.

Hopefully it will be a week or so before the complete reveal.  Hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek!

hugs,

Jann

p.s. I want to thank Laura for featuring my Taking Care of Baby  post on her Vintage Sunday View party.  Her party is fairly new and still live.  She’d love for you to hop over and link up.

It looks amazing, well what we get to see....
I love the idea of being on a farm...but reality is, it isn't going to happen....not with the RA I have, it just doesn't allow me to do things I used to....
So, I do the same thing, bring it here, in the middle of suburbia...
Great job....

How exciting, Jann! Our first house we lived in was an 1865 farmhouse that we pretty much completely restored. Then we moved...but I have such good (and not so good)memories of the hard work and results of all that went into the remodeling process. We had old barn siding on the living room walls, sliding barn doors between the rooms, and original hardwood floors, Somewhere in my drawer of photos i have pictures. Maybe someday I'll pull them out and post them. Can't wait to see your reveal!
